HyNet has big plans – to decarbonise the North West of England and North Wales as we push towards net zero. But it also brings growth.
This region is an industrial heartland, manufacturing vital products the whole of the UK relies on. Because of this, the North West hosts the most manufacturing jobs of any UK region, employing 345,000 people in 2019.
HyNet will create a low carbon hub to retain and attract businesses to the UK to invest and locate in the region, both creating, and safeguarding jobs. This will support levelling up as we ‘build back greener’.
Essar Oil (UK) Limited is investing £45 million to build the UK’s first hydrogen furnace based at a refinery which, from 2026 onwards, will be fuelled by HyNet’s low carbon hydrogen.
